Thats what so many people dont get... It WAS a parody. I mean.. do all of you guys who think it ***** or rocks, thinks it takes itself dead serious?

I honestly beleive its meant to be like "90210" in space... its part of the films style

I haven't read the book, but I thought the film was crammed with social commentary. I really liked the film.

yeah.. its a great movie. And one of the reasons for this is becuse of its corniness (inteted i think) and satirical feel.

I like this movie, two things that don?t make much sense to me though:

In the future we will have gigantic space ships that transport troops to distant galaxies. Troops will have portable nukes to shoot at bugs & a cool liquid tank that heals mortal wounds. & Incredibly beautiful women like Denise Richards are in the military.

On the flip side:

We no longer have armored vehicles like tanks, jeeps, or apc's. Space craft lack missiles, bombs, or any other type of defense like machine guns, and once again they managed to find a planet that has the same identical atmosphere as earth to fight on, amazing!

this rates as one of my best films of all time.

first time i saw it, i did hate it, because i wasn't in tune with it -- i was expecting bladerunner or something.

the 'man riding on cgi beast' beats the **** out of anything i've seen since, simply because they don't hold the cgi shot for long, cos they know it $ucks. unlike clones -- ugh!
